December Breakfast Menu

Meal Rates:

As we prepare to open the new school year I need to share some good news with you.  This year ALL students at Holy Cross High School are eligible for Free Breakfast and Lunch.  Please note that if your child would like to have extra items or a-la-carte items they must be purchased.  The easiest way to have money in your child's account is to send in cash or check and have your child give it to the cafeteria manager and she will put in on their account.

Below is information on this program which has been provided from the Diocesan School Lunch Program Office:

Students can get one breakfast meal free. Looking at the breakfast menu they can have 1 of everything listed on a day, with the exception of something listed with "or", that will be a choice of 1 of those items, then 1 of everything else listed, and then the choice of a milk or juice. They must take a combination of three of the offered items, but they are not required to take them all.

For lunch, the first meal is free. This consists of the main protein listed first on each day or alternative meal as listed at the bottom of the menu (PB & J, Yogurt, etc.) plus up to 2 fruits and up to 2 vegetables plus a milk or juice. So, in total they can have 5 items on their tray plus a juice or milk and it will be free. On days that there is a cookie they could have up to 6 items plus a beverage if they choose. They must have at least 3 components on their tray, one of those 3 must be a form of the main protein. Anything beyond the 5 (or 6 on cookie days) will be considered extra and require money in their account.

Packers cannot come through the line and just get fruit or a vegetable or a beverage to complement the lunch they brought from home. They will have to get at least 3 components, including a main protein and come through the line to get "charged" for their free meal.  Otherwise, it would be considered an extra and they will have to have money in their account to pay for it.

We have not received information on the charges for this year other than the main meal, which has gone up over last year. So, if your child would like a complete second meal that would consist of up to the 5 items (cookie days they are only allowed one, no extras) plus an additional beverage it will be $3.20 for elementary and $3.45 for high school. They can buy each component separately (no extra cookies) such as an additional beverage, fruit, vegetable, or just the main entree. Last year's prices were $.55 up to $2.20 for these but I expect they might also have been raised in price by a nickel like lunch so don't quote me on those prices.

And as last year snacks and ice cream will be available for purchase. These obviously are all an additional cost and not included for free.  Last year's prices ranged from $.60 to $2.50, I am not certain yet if any of these have increased.

Because all students get a free breakfast and lunch there will be no charging an account as in the past.  If extra money is not available in the student's account, they cannot buy extras or snacks.
